Developing Drawing Skills & Techniques: Classical to Contemporary

This engaging four-session course is designed for adults who wish to further develop their drawing skills, broaden their creative toolkit, and gain confidence in both traditional and experimental approaches to drawing. Balancing classical techniques with more expressive, contemporary methods, this course offers an inspiring environment where you can refine technical ability while exploring new ways of seeing and creating. Whether you are looking to sharpen your observational skills or push your artistic boundaries, this course will support you in growing a more personal and thoughtful drawing practice.

Relaxed Art Groups

Experimental Botanical Painting 19th Feb 2026 2-4pm

Expressive drawing and mark-making using a combination of wet and dry materials.

Victorian Surrealist Collage 26th March 2026 2-4pm

Inspired by collage artist Catrin Welz-Stein you will work with images to create your own cabinet of curiosities in the form of a 2D composition.

Printing Weed Compositions 30th April 2026 2-4pm

You will be constructing patterns and designs through layers and arrangements to explore the beauty in nature's untamed plant-life.

LEARN HOW TO DRAW WORKSHOPS Ashmolean Museum, with artist Helen J.S. Edwards

A course of 3 half-day practical sessions in the galleries & the Ashmolean Learning Studio. Learn how to draw from first-hand observation & be guided through each of the formal elements including line, tone, texture, shape & form, light & composition.  The course is suitable for beginners as well as the more experienced and aims to break down any preconceptions or fears around drawing. 

Participants will be working from objects in the Museum.
